The Steering committee is an independent group of HIV experts and is instrumental in helping achieve the aims and objectives of HIV in Europe.

The Co-Chairs

Jens Lundgren Professor & Chief Physician, University of Copenhagen & Rigshospitalet Director, Copenhagen HIV Programme, Denmark

Jens Lundgren is Professor of Viral Diseases, founded and heads the Centre for Viral Diseases and the Copenhagen HIV Programme (CHIP) at the University of Copenhagen and the State University Hospital in Copenhagen. He is co-editor-in-chief of HIV Medicine, and chair of the steering committee for the “D:A:D study”, project leader of EuroSIDA, member of the executive committee of INSIGHT (International Network for Strategic Initiatives in Global HIV Trials) and co-chair of the START study.

	Ton Coenen Steering Committee, AIDS Action Europe, Netherlands Executive Director, STI AIDS, Netherlands
	Ton Coenen is Executive Director of the AIDS Fonds and STI AIDS Netherlands. He is also a member of the steering committee of AIDS Action Europe, a pan-European NGO Partnership on HIV and AIDS that started in 2004, with more than 200 members today. He is also Co-Chair of the HIV/AIDS Civil Society Forum.

Jordi Casabona Scientific Director, Center for HIV/STI Epidemiological Studies of Catalonia (CEEISCAT)

Jordi Casabona is a medical epidemiologist. President of the Fundació Sida i Societat and Associated Professor of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Currently, he coordinated the research line of Epidemiology, Public Health and International Health at the Research Institute on Health Sciences Germans Trias. He is the Principal Investigator of the European Union financed "HIV Community Based Testing Practices in Europe" project (COBATEST) and a member of the COHERE Executive Committee. In 2002, the co-chair of the XIV International AIDS Conference in Barcelona. He is a member of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology and of the Catalan Society of Infectious Diseases. His group develops public health applied research in Europe and Central America.

	Nikos Dedes Past Chair of the Board of Directors European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG), Greece
	Nikos Dedes is past Chair of the Board of Directors at EATG, a voluntary organisation built on more than 90 members across 30 different European countries, founded in 1991. He is also founder of the NGO 'Synthesis', which aims to increase awareness, prevent and promote scientific research about HIV/AIDS in Greece. He is also Co-Chair of the HIV/AIDS Civil Society Forum.

	José Gatell Head, Infectious Diseases & AIDS Units, Clinical Institute of Medicine & Dermatology, Hospital Clinic Professor of Medicine, University of Barcelona, Spain
	Jose Gatell is Chair of "HIV in Spain 2009" and past President of the executive committee of the European AIDS Clinical Society. He served as the co-chair of the XIV International AIDS Conference, Barcelona, July 2002, and is a member of the Spanish Society Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC), Catalan Society of Infectious Diseases and European Union AIDS Programme.

	Brian Gazzard Professor of Medicine, Imperial College School of Medicine HIV Research Director, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, UK
	Brian Gazzard is the founding chairman of the British HIV Association (BHIVA) and sits on the Editorial Board of the BHIVA/EACS journal HIV Medicine.

	Igor Karpov Professor, Department of Infectious Disease Belarus State Medical University

	Jürgen Rockstroh Professor of Medicine University of Bonn and Head of an HIV outpatient clinic, Germany
	>Jürgen Rockstroh is an investigator from various protease inhibitor studies and has considerable experience with various antiretroviral drug regimens and clinical trials for treatment of HIV and hepatitis co-infection. He has been elected chair of the KAAD (German Clinical AIDS Working Group) since 1998.

	Anders Sönnerborg   MD, PhD, Professor, Department of Medicine Karolinska University Hospital, Sweden
	Anders Sönnerborg is Professor of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Virology at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm. He has been clinically and scientifically active in the field of HIV since 1983. He is director of the Swedish InfCare HIV cohort and of the Swedish Reference group for Antiviral Therapy.

John de Wit Professor of Sociology, Utrecht University The Netherlands

John de Wit has been working in the field of HIV-research since 1989. He is, inter alia, member of the International AIDS Society, the American Psychological Association, the International Society for the Study of Social Issues, and the International Federation of Behavioural Medicine. He also serves on the editorial boards of AIDS Care and AIDS Education and Prevention, and is a member of the scientific committee of the AIDS Impact Conferences.
